Astronomy

Astronomy is the natural science that studies everything outside Earth's atmosphere, including stars, planets, galaxies, and the physical universe. And Astrophysics is: Physics to understand how celestial objects work and form.

Got my first Telescope as a teenager and have loved the Science and Science Fiction ever since. For the last 60 years I don’t usually talk about it because most of my acquaintances and friends glaze over and look extremely disinterested, so I keep it to my self, always have. Since my retirement I have invested in some better equipment and had the time to learn a bit more, in fact considering becoming a member of AAS American Astronomical Society so I can contribute to the science. Quit honestly Astronomy is one of the most complex sciences and fills my mind. I have recently started taking pictures of what I observe and shown them to some friends, to my surprise some think its really cool, some still glaze over, so that’s it! Now I feel okay about boring you to death LOL

I use this setup the most. The heart is a Red Cat 51 and an AM5N mount. 4-element Petzval apochromatic refractor (in 3 groups) using FPL-53 glass, Focal Length: 250 mm Focal Ratio (F-Stop): f/4.9. Its a good wide field scope. I usually shoot in Mono thru 7 filters: Luminescence, Red, Green, Blue,SII, HA and OIII.  My 'Rig' has a mini fan-less PC attached to the telescope and it runs a freeware program called 'Nina' that controls the rig. It can also be pre-programed long before a session and is connected via WiFi to my main system in the office. Super powerful PC: i7, 64 gigs of RAM, 4TB SSD local storage and 26TB of storage on a NAS.

The telescope pictured above is my wide view setup (250mm), when it looks at the sky it looks at a lager chunk. I have ordered (69th Birthday) a Stellarvue SVX102T 714mm. Considerably better and more powerful Telescope. Its hand made in Northern California. Eventually I will be able to get better images (clearer/Higher resolution)
further away, so that's exciting.

After a night of gathering data, (20 to 30 Gigabytes worth) its has to be processed. In other words so we humans can see it. There is a lot of light (Photons) that humans can’t see, so It needs work. Its also in small chunks that have to be put together before we can even start processing. This is called ‘Stacking’. I will not going to processing as it can be very time consuming and complex.

At the end and past the study of an interstellar object you can get a picture, I was looking at M31 The Andromeda Galaxy, Located about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth

A barred spiral galaxy containing an estimated one trillion stars.
