 I was never supposed to work with Technology, I trained as an Architect, my first job was in Architecture, in fact I started to specialize in Airport design (I was a Pilot) I started my own practice when I was living in Hong Kong that was immediately successful, I even expanded to Singapore at a clients request, 10 employees. So I was a successful Architect. Who knew! I few years later Hong Kong was getting ready to be under the Chinese Government, many of my clients left the city. I was also just over 30, so some change were in order. Around this time I saw a Movie (1982) ‘Tron’ Amazing, had a huge impact on my thinking, how computers could help people, ease their life, so I partnered up with a very Large firm in Hong Kong ‘Swire’ on pioneering CAD (Computer Aided Design) for Architecture, I mean Wow! China was very interested in acquiring this tech so Mr. Naive. Everything I had, every penny and we went half in. Anyhow without going into details we went bankrupt in less than 9 months, I had nothing left, a huge error in judgment. Had to head back to England with my tail, get back to poverty and a Divorce, not a good time! But ya can’t keep a good man down, I took a job (Technology/Graphics) in just outside London and got a little place in Royal Ascot. I also started another business on the side doing 3D Computer modeling when no one else did it. Made a bunch of money Job plus business. Hong Kong was finished, so as I can not stand England I had plans to move to Southern California, where the weather was great and I could fly every day. My friend ‘Paul’ was going to come with me. So at 30 Months I was ready to leave England again. Remember I am old! Back then there was no public internet and computers filled a room. I loved my job |
